Before You Blend

7 things to know before starting your grey blending journey. Grey blending isn’t about hiding every grey – or making everyone blonde.

It’s a considered way of working with your natural pattern to soften regrowth, remove harsh lines and create colour that still feels like you.

Done well, it can free you from the cycle of covering your roots every few weeks. Before deciding between a Full Transformation and a High Impact Day, here are seven things worth knowing.

1. Blonde isn’t automatically the answer

“Go lighter” is often the first advice women hear when their greys become more visible. It sounds logical – but lighter isn’t always more flattering, and it doesn’t necessarily solve the problem.

Permanent colour can leave a hard line as it grows out. Adding more and more blonde may soften that line, but it can also create a new contrast with your natural darker hair. Over time, many brunettes find themselves much lighter than they ever intended and no longer feel quite like themselves.

The best result isn’t the lightest one. It’s the one that works with your skin tone, eye colour and natural depth.

That’s why every Full Transformation begins with a professional colour analysis before a single foil is placed.

2. Let us see your regrowth

It may be tempting to cover your roots before your consultation. Please don’t.

Your natural grey pattern is our roadmap. Some women have a strong silver streak at the front; others are lighter at the temples, crown or throughout. No two patterns are exactly alike, and yours will guide the placement of your blend.

Where possible, arrive with around eight weeks of regrowth. The more we can see, the more precisely we can plan.

3. Grey blending isn’t “just highlights”

Highlights are designed to add lighter ribbons through the hair. Grey blending has a different job.

The aim is to create a seamless relationship between your natural grey, your remaining pigment and your previous colour. That may mean softening a regrowth line, removing unwanted artificial colour, restoring depth or balancing several tones at once.

It’s detailed, highly individual work and your natural grey leads the design.

4. Your journey will be your own

Before-and-after photographs are wonderful for inspiration, but they aren’t a menu.
Some women can achieve their desired result in one High Impact Day. Others need a carefully planned Full Transformation, allowing time to remove years of colour while protecting the condition of the hair.

Your grey pattern, colour history, hair condition and end goal will determine the right route—not somebody else’s photograph.

5. Specialist experience matters

Moving away from full-coverage colour is one of the most technically demanding services a colourist can undertake. It calls for colour-correction expertise, bespoke placement, tonal control and a plan for how the result will evolve.

I’m trained and certified in The Grey Blending Method® – a specialist approach to creating natural, seamless results. It’s a qualification I’m hugely proud of, and it informs every stage of my work.

6. Grey hair plays by different rules

As hair loses pigment, its texture often changes too. It may feel drier, coarser or less reflective than before.

A successful grey blend is therefore about more than colour. The right salon treatments, home care and maintenance plan will help keep your hair soft, healthy and luminous long after your appointment.

Beautiful colour is only half the story. It also needs to wear beautifully.

7. There is no “right” way to go grey

You might choose to continue covering your grey. You might want a lower-maintenance blend. Or you may decide to grow out your old colour completely.

All are valid.

The right choice is the one that suits your hair, your lifestyle and how you want to feel when you look in the mirror.

The next step is a short questionnaire. Your answers will help me understand where you are now, where you’d like to go and whether a High Impact Day or Full Transformation is the best fit for you.
